Near-black steps — raise brightness until you can separate all 6 blocks
Near-white steps — lower brightness until you can separate all 6 blocks
ANSI checkerboard — alternating 0% and 100%
Adjust brightness until the first near-black step (5%) is just visible, and the last near-white step (95%) is distinct from pure white. This finds the sweet spot for your room's ambient light.
